In 1980s-90s France, how did brilliant communicators create a new public relations strategy that enabled them to take over the Elysee and to stay in power? The television was already king of all medias and could transform itself into an incredible stepping stone as well as a deadly trap for politicians. Mitterrand and Chirac understood this to their own expense before they managed, with the help of some secret strategists, to tame the television and make it work to their benefit. These radical reversals were made by some secret advisors that Americans call “spin doctors”.
